If caught in the early stages, an iliofemoral DVT can be treated by removal of the clot to prevent long-term complications. If an iliofemoral DVT is not acute (the clot has been there for a long time already) and remains severely symptomatic; an iliofemoral deep venous stent may be an option.
Conservative management with blood thinning medications and a Grade 2 compression stocking may be most appropriate. Dr Morrisroe can discuss the various options with you at your consultation.
